Title: Exploring the Reconciliation and Growth Project Document: Clinical Common Ground for Gender, Sexual, and Faith Diversity, with an emphasis on working with Gender Diversity
Speaker and Degree: A. Lee Becksted, PhD, Lisa Hansen, PhD, LMFT, David M. Haralson, PhD, LMFT, Chelsea Johnson, MA, LMFT, Candice Metzler, Ph.D., LCSW
Description: Since 2012, various members of the Reconciliation and Growth Project have been meeting twice a month to dialogue and find common ground on issues related to sexual, gender, and faith diversity. Members have included clinicians, academics, and educators with differing views on topics such as conversion therapy, same-sex marriage, and medical transitioning. This presentation will share the history and process of this collaborative effort to reduce polarization and highlight clinical recommendations designed to help a broad range of clinicians avoid harm, promote self-determination, reduce trauma and minority stress, build resilience, and foster meaningful human connection.
Learning Objectives: Based on this presentation I can…
1…navigate my own values with respect to ethical standards of care for gender-questioning and gender-diverse clients.
2…implement assessments that will aid clients in exploring their experience of gender.
3…choose from a range of interventions that help clients increase options for sexuality and gender expression.
4…use strategies that promote family connection and reduce polarization for gender-questioning and gender-diverse clients.
5...appreciate the value of seeking common ground with my political enemies and how to help family members co-create safety to respond to conflicts within their family.

AASECT hours: Exciting news for American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) providers! The Guild is collaborating with our friends at The Healing Group Institute (THGI) to issue AASECT continuing education hours for the Guild's in-services. Look for the link to THGI's website, to apply for AASECT hours, every month, at the bottom of the emails titled: “Zoom Link.” These are the emails sent out before each in-service, that contains the Zoom link to our in-services, and the link to our CEU evaluation form. If you want both professional UPA-approved CEs and AASECT CEs you will need to fill out both evaluations. THGI is offering attendees 1.5 AASECT CEs for each of our 1.5 hours in-services for a fee of $35. You will be given the opportunity to apply when you attend the event.
