Title: Clinical Crossroads: Clinical approaches to addressing intersectionality with clients from marginalized communities
Speaker and Degree: Tekulvē de Flower Jackson-Vann, MS, LMFT
Description: Systems Theory teaches us that our clients do not live in a vacuum. Many clients hold memberships in multiple marginalized groups, and the impact of the intersection of those various memberships often motivates clients to seek clinical help. In this presentation, J. Tekulvē Flower de Jackson-Vann, LMFT will share clinical and personal insights into working more effectively with clients from marginalized communities. He will share clinical approaches based on his nearly two decades of clinical experience in various clinical settings and his lived experience as a Black, queer, LDS-adjacent male living in the Intermountain West.
Learning Objectives: Based on this presentation I…
1…explore the complexities of intersectionality as they impact clinical presentation and issues involving clients from marginalized communities.
2…Identify strategies to support clients from marginalized communities in navigating interactions with various social institutions, which may negatively impact mental and emotional health.
3…Develop skills to advocate for the rights and well-being of clients from marginalized communities within various systems while also increasing self-awareness of internal biases.

AASECT hours: Exciting news for American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) providers! The Guild is collaborating with our friends at The Healing Group Institute (THGI) to issue AASECT continuing education hours for the Guild's in-services. Look for the link to THGI's website, to apply for AASECT hours, every month, at the bottom of the emails titled: “Zoom Link.” These are the emails sent out before each in-service, that contains the Zoom link to our in-services, and the link to our CEU evaluation form. If you want both professional UPA-approved CEs and AASECT CEs you will need to fill out both evaluations. THGI is offering attendees 1.5 AASECT CEs for each of our 1.5 hours in-services for a fee of $35. You will be given the opportunity to apply when you attend the event.
