Title: The ways that being raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may influence LGBTQ+ individuals' identity development and their flourishing

Speaker and Degree: Tyler Lefevor, PhD

Description:  LGBTQ+ people raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) must navigate identity development and flourishing as an LGBTQ+ person in light of the conservative tenets of their natal faith tradition. In this presentation, I share framework for helping understand the various ways that being raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may influence LGBTQ+ individuals' identity development and flourishing. I then share contemporary research on LGBTQ+ current and former Latter-day Saints, focusing on therapeutic approaches that may be most helpful for these individuals in facilitating their identity development and flourishing.

Learning Objectives: Based on this presentation I…

1...  can describe the ways LGBTQ+ Latter-day Saints navigate their gender/sexual and religious identities

2... am able to identify therapeutic approaches that are likely to be helpful when working with LGBTQ+ Latter-day Saints

3... understand the stressors and supports available to LGBTQ+ Latter-day Saints.
