What is your approach to affirmative therapy?
LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy. We validate and advocate for the needs of sexual and gender minority clients. We demonstrate an affirming, encouraging stance and setting for our clients. We seek self-reflection on our socialization, attitudes, beliefs, and privilege. And we all seek out continuing education formally and informally to be up to date on developments in the field and in wider culture. I (Marty Erickson) personally vet all therapists and staff regarding their interests, experience, and passion for LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, and I offer ongoing training and supervision toward more inclusive more affirming therapy and group practice structures for serving and employing sexual and gender minority persons.
