Bleached: Beyond White-Washed Trans Narratives

  • 02/15/2018
  • 8:00 AM - 9:45 AM
  • Division of Youth Services, 177 West Price Ave. (3610 S, just off West Temple), Salt Lake City, Utah 84115

Social/political discourses, literature, and even clinical considerations regarding trans and gender diverse communities are often White-washed into mono-narratives of the trans experience.  Using theoretical and empirical research, this session will briefly examine the mono-cultural trans narrative, discuss the social-cultural-historical-political intersectionality of gender and racial identities, and consider implications for clinical practice with trans and gender diverse clients of color.

Presenter: Jayden Thai, M.Ed., Psychology Doctoral Intern, University Counseling Center, University of Utah
